From Surfer’s Path
This photo is by Sean Davey and was included in the Monday Morning Wave. Don’t know if the colors are photoshopped, but it’s incredible.

Dirk Westphal: Surfboard Art
Sorry if any of you were trying to post recently, and couldn’t log in. The blog was having technical problems — but now it’s up and running!

“Great Grom Video” from Surfrider
Eleven year old Cobi Emery made this green-surfing video, shown at surfrider.org. Incredible, huh? When I was eleven, I stepped on a disposable camera, which then broke.
Second Surfing Attempt: The Surfing Lesson
Paul and I split a surfing lesson taught by this awesome chick named “Sticks” (or “Styx?”) who works out of the Frog Pad. She had us standing up in white water (and I think Paul caught a green wave or two). It was really fun. But her best piece of advice came when we were […]
Why Doctors and Nurses Should Surf
Just came across a book here on why doctors and nurses should surf. It’s not the book depicted in the image above, although that book is also about a surfing nurse.
Smallest Grom Ever!!!
I saw this cutie pie surfing the other day. I don’t know her name or age, but I’m guessing she’s around 4 years old. Imagine when she’s 12! She’s gonna shred!!!! Note the very cute pink bikini and the relaxed stance. This kid has style!

Michael recently ferreted out an art show we’d all like: Gagosian’s Chelsea Gallery is displaying several objects by Australian designer Marc Newson, including surfboards made of hollow nickel. Michael will be blogging about the installation soon, but in the meanwhile, New Yorkers should go check it out before it comes down on March 3rd.
Cross Stepping
Okay, so I am learning to cross step and its taking me a little while. I understand the part about taking the bottom turn, coming up high and stalling to bury the tail of the board, but this whole ninja walk thing on the board feels… er, new. Though she is still learning, Susan is […]
Sand Surfing
I had been curious about sand surfing, so this last Fall, on our way to the Maldives, we stopped in Dubai and drove out to the desert to try it. I can tell you that the scary thing wasn’t sand surfing but rather driving up to the highest dunes to get decent pitch for your […]
