Last week I mentioned an exciting project I was going to participate it in. It was simple effort but made a huge impact on the intended party as well as many passersby. My neighbors are an Australian couple named Craig and Greg. They moved to NY in June of last year and I took the apartment below them about a month later. There are just the three of us in the building plus their two big dogs and my recently adopted cat. A week ago, they celebrated their 15th anniversary together. As gay marriage in NY is legal Craig thought it would be the perfect moment to propose to Greg.
Craig is a creative sort and had an idea to whisk Greg away for a two night stay in a NY hotel. (It was probably the only way for Greg to keep from working too. ) They checked into a hotel which overlooks the wonderful Highline walkway. Craig had the idea to propose to Greg in writing; something Greg could spot from their 14th floor window. Perhaps something on the Highline…? That was tricky as the Highline would close by 10pm. We scouted an alternative spot and came up with this gritty/enchanting option. Two of their friends and I set out 360 candles while Craig and Greg had dinner. When they returned home to marvel at the incredible views the room affords, Greg got a big shock and apparently a tear in his eye. Fortunately the rain held out and let the words shine bright.
My apologies for the poor quality of the photos. I used the camera in my phone. The wedding is set for next summer on the roof of our building.
