Many of you visiting or living in NY may have noticed a huge increase in bike lanes throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. The move to make biking a viable alternative method of transport is going to get even better with the addition of a bicycle share program. The program, modeled after similar systems in Europe and other American cities will start trials in the spring of 2012.
As reported in the New York Times last month, the Alta bike-sharing program will integrate 600 rental stations and 10,000 bicycles into the streets of New York, making it the largest sharing program in the country. The city has a website set up with more information. Â It also enables you to suggest locations bicycle stations.
Though winter is kicking in, a bike share program in NYC is one more reason to look forward to spring!
