Hello all, I’m Melise. 19 years
old, recently transplanted from
Miami to San Francisco.
If you had asked me three weeks
ago what I expect to see in Bali,
I would have said “Temples and
rice fields!”.

Now, after ten days on the
Indonesian ‘Island of the Gods,’
I’ve had to amend my answer
to include roosters, fishing
boats, villas, spas, beaches,
monkeys, and some of the purest,

So much news about Harmony Hotel
grads!!

Lee Hirsch, who was at the hotel
in January, recently had his
documentary air on the History
Channel. It got a fantastic NY
Times review. The feature is
about a soldier named Rafael
Peralta, who died in the Iraq
War. The postcard is a pic of
Peralta when he was young.

Lee was supposed to blog about
this himself! Tsk, tsk.

The beauty of natural,
sustainable wood surfboards have
propelled Grain Surfboards to the
forefront of a growing market.
The company is committed to
building and riding hollow wooden
surfboards. They also offer kits
for the DIY crowd (my 10′
Waterlog is nearing
completion!) The Grain tradition
includes reducing the impact of
surfboard production by using
locally produced, sustainable
wood products and creatively
reducing or reusing any waste
left over.

Susan, Lak and I got up early the
next morning with the plan to
rent some boards and go find the
beach known as Surfer’s Beach. We
were driving past the airport
when Susan said “Hey, look at that
plane. It looks strange”. We hadn’t
had any coffee yet and Lak and I
hadn’t seen anything, so we
were doubtful until we came
around another bend, and then
Wow! We parked the car and
snapped some pictures.

Tracy & Lak and Tracy’s Mom have a
beautiful place on Eleuthra. Its
gracious and the guest house has
a super comfy bed. When I woke up
from my well deserved nap on
Friday afternoon, I snapped this
picture from the guest house
porch on my way to a glass of
Barbancourt. I’m hoping they can
set up that badminton set we gave
them in the yard! More pictures
coming of that beautiful blue
ocean!

A few weeks ago we went to the
Bahamas with our friends Tracy
and Lak. The next couple of posts
from me will be about this little
trip. Tracy’s family has a
beautiful place there with a long
arcing reef protecting the beach
and creating a perfect snorkeling
and free diving spot.

John’s benefit at Eyebeam was
great! In this photo from the
benefit, the Yes Men just made
John put on a suit that will
supposedly help him survive
hurricanes and natural disasters.
