I had been curious about sand
surfing, so this last Fall, on
our way to the Maldives, we
stopped in Dubai and drove out to
the desert to try it. I can tell
you that the scary thing wasn’t
sand surfing but rather driving
up to the highest dunes to get
decent pitch for your ride. As
anyone who has driven in deep
sand knows, the wheel feels loose
and you have to keep your speed
up. Combine that with stomach

“You can blame El Nino, global
warming or blind chance, but
today marks the longest New York
City has gone into the season
without snowfall since 1878, when
it finally snowed on Jan. 4th.”
What do they mean, “… or blind
chance?” This seems
