Michael Krebber, astrorock

Michael Krebber, astrorock, 2008

It seems Michael Krebber has been on a raw foods diet, or maybe some plan of specific separation, Kosher or macrobiotic-style. Here he took a group of mainly German-made (who knew?) windsurfing boards, and made a group photo, seven boards lined up like brahs. Then he made a poster, folded it up, and hid it with the other gallery info. Then he collected a few additional boards and dissected them for the world to see, pawned them, basically, almost like how Mystery did on The Pick-Up Artist, but those were boys, and here Krebber is schooling artistic machismo. So the poster made a funny little “before” shot to the show’s “after.” Speaking of amuses bouche, one problem with the drawings in the show: Justus Köhncke is extremely attractive; one shouldn’t be remiss in depicting that type of thing.

NASA Finds 2011 Ninth-Warmest Year on Record

The global average surface temperature in 2011 was the ninth warmest since 1880, according to NASA scientists. The finding continues a trend in which nine of the 10 warmest years in the modern meteorological record have occurred since the year 2000. NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York, which monitors global surface temperatures on an ongoing basis, released an updated analysis that shows temperatures around the globe in 2011 compared to the average global temperature from the mid-20th century. The comparison shows how Earth continues to experience warmer temperatures than several decades ago. The average temperature around the globe in 2011 was 0.92 degrees F (0.51 C) warmer than the mid-20th century baseline. Watch the NASA video here.

Blue Falling

Blue Falling by Ryan McGinley

Whenever someone, who isn’t familiar with my work asks me what kind of photos I take, I tell them if you take the everyday things people do in nudism, think of the way models looks in the 1960′s and 1970′s vintage pornography, and mix that with the suspended action of sports photography, then you can get an idea of what my work looks like.—Ryan McGinley in ASX interview

Into the rainforest

A little video I did with Erik Gustafsson and Deborah Moss for a Costa Rican rainforest ecolodge called Lapa Rios.

Bantam Cruiserboards

The first ever skateboards was invented in California by surfers who tried to bring surfing to land. By adding small wheels to a wooden board they sort of simulated the feeling of standing on a surfboard catching a wave, but on land. Globe has now gone back to that time and created a line of boards called “Bantam Cruiserboards“. And as they say on their website:
“Bantam Cruiser is not a toy. The board is stiffer, the trucks are wider and the components last longer than anything in the market. These little beasts have been tested on the streets, backyard pools and any ramps we come across.”

Thumbs up for this!
