For some reason, I am still fascinated by the hindu astrological beliefs that requires actress Aishwarya Rai to marry a tree. Various blogs say that the ritual is required because Ms. Rai’s first marriage will bring disaster to the groom. By marrying the tree, the tree will receive the bad luck, disaster, etc. So at first, this all seemed like a pithy expression of love for nature — but nope — actually, the ritual is pretty much mean-spirited towards the tree.
Still, it seems kind of beautiful.
Also, it’s intriguing that the tree has to be a peepal or banana tree. There is a choice! However, there are only two options, so tying the knot with a white spruce or a catalpa will not cut it.
