Okay, just bear with me a bit while I compare the artist James Turrell to the musician R. Kelly.
1) They create things that are very moving (shut up, haters of R. Kelly)
2) They both believe they can touch the sky
Last night in New York City, Turrell spoke about the use of natural light and the sky in his work. He made a pretty good case for light as a tangible substance: Your skin gets Vitamin D out of it, your pupils dilate, the neurons in your eyeballs go nuts. “It’s almost physical, like to touch.”
Turrell shared slides of his art, which included the pieces that could essentially be described as rectangular holes in ceilings that reveal the sky.
Pretty beautiful.
